Why Me, Why Now?
I often look around and wonder how I got to this place in my career. There have been struggles and setbacks but I’m still here. Now I want to give hope and the words I wish I would have heard through my career to others. So here we go!
Perspective Is Key
So how did I get here? What a great question. Most people will say hard work, by the grace of god, and luck. And you would be right. You need all of theses things to make it today. But there are some other factors that are just as important. Hard work- yes but understanding where you are going is key. By the grace of god – yes, but you have to recognize when god is giving you grace. Luck- yes but when the luck happens you have to have the skills and knowledge to back it up. All of these things have to be in place for things to work out. And even when they are things still might not fall into place the first time. Sometimes it takes them falling into place and falling apart to learn the lesson. Sometimes you keep learning the lesson. There is no straight line to success. It often means taking a lateral move or more importantly sometimes it takes taking a step back. Perspective is everything. It’s a must to keep prevailing and sometimes failing. These are things no one tells you when building a life or career. Oh, and a fun fact just because you have it today doesn’t mean you keep it. It takes time and effort to keep perspective. So let’s say great you have perspective, now what to do with it? One might say that’s when the real work starts. Being able to evaluate where you are and make meaningful steps once you understand where you are is critical. But how do you learn these traits? I can tell you, in my experience, you better have a tribe around you that can help you see things clearly. And once you do will support and be honest with you no matter the message. I have been lucky enough and blessed enough to have just that in my life. These women and one man have pushed me, inspired me, and made me the woman I am today. Without their friendship, I’m not sure where I would be. But I can tell you if I had all the other pieces but lacked my tribe I wouldn’t be talking to you today. So perspective is key.
